The University of Warwick(华威大学)entry requirements for Chinese students (2027) — minimum average mark, university list tiers and programme extras

Warwick(华威大学, The University of Warwick)reads your Chinese bachelor's transcript through a published list of recognised Chinese universities. For 2027 entry, that list assigns each institution one of four categories, and each category carries a minimum weighted average expressed as a UK 2:1 equivalent: Category 1 requires 0.7, Category 2 requires 0.75, Category 3 requires 0.8, and Category 4 requires 0.88. Reaching the number is not an offer — Warwick states that every application is considered on its own merits and that the admissions office holds final say.

The four category scores at a glance

Institution category Minimum score required (UK 2:1 equivalent)
Category 1 0.7
Category 2 0.75
Category 3 0.8
Category 4 0.88

The policy document also states that requirements vary by programme, that some courses accept a UK 2:2 or equivalent, and that the published page for the specific course takes precedence over any general category figure.

What the category thresholds mean in practice

Higher categories are not harder to list — they carry higher minimums. If your university appears in Category 4, the bar the policy sets for a2:1-equivalent offer is 0.88, not 0.7. Check the row for your own institution before you plan your application, and check the programme page as well, since a course may set its own threshold.

Where Law is handled differently

The policy notes that Warwick's law school sets separate entry requirements for certain Chinese institutions, with details in the appendix to the list. If you are applying to law, read that appendix rather than relying on the general category.

Qualification routes Warwick accepts

Language exemption conditions

The published conditions for the 3+1, 2+2 and 4+0 routes are:

  1. Where your degree was taught entirely in English in a UKVI-certified English-speaking country, postgraduate applications made within two years and four months before the start date can be exempt from language requirements.
  2. Completing an SQA 3+1 top-up degree exempts the language requirement.
  3. Some departments set higher English requirements, and the final exemption decision rests with the department and the admissions office.

Programme-specific extras

The general category table does not cover entrance tests, portfolios or interviews. Whether a taught master's programme requires a GMAT or GRE score, a portfolio, or an interview is a matter for the individual course page — check the university's own pages, which take precedence.

The published material also does not list which programmes accept part-time or other non-full-time study modes, nor does it give fee figures for Chinese applicants. Check the university's own pages, which take precedence, for both.

How to verify each figure yourself

Every number above comes from Warwick's own 2027 entry requirements document and its China University Acceptance List. To confirm the current version:

  1. Open warwick.ac.uk.
  2. Find the country-specific entry requirements pages for China.
  3. Locate the2027 China University Acceptance List.
  4. Search your institution's English or Chinese name in the table.
  5. Read the category column, then check the programme page for the course you are targeting.

The list in Warwick's document is long and this page does not reproduce every row, so treat the official list — not this article — as the operative record.
