Loughborough University(拉夫堡大学)entry requirements for Chinese students — minimum average mark, university list tiers and programme extras
For 2025 entry, Loughborough University(拉夫堡大学) does not apply one Chinese average mark to every applicant. Its postgraduate taught (PGT) policy places Chinese universities into three Shanghai Rank bands — Top 250, 251–500, and 501+ — and sets a different Chinese weighted average for each UK degree class. The policy applies across all PGT courses at both Loughborough campuses. If your case is not covered below, check the university's own pages, which take precedence.
The 2025 PGT average-mark mapping
The policy table uses decimal values. For example, 0.83 corresponds to 83% on a 100-point scale.
| Shanghai Rank band | UK 1st class degree (also the level used for the Excellence Scholarship) | UK High 2:1 (≈65%) | UK 2.1 | UK High 2:2 (≈55%) | UK 2.2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Top 250 | 0.83 | 0.76 | 0.72 | 0.7 | 0.67 |
| 251–500 | 0.88 | 0.81 | 0.75 | 0.73 | 0.7 |
| 501+ | 0.92 | 0.84 | 0.79 | 0.77 | 0.75 |
The band you fall into depends on your university's Shanghai Rank position. The policy does not say how many Chinese universities sit in each band, and it does not set a single mark for all Chinese institutions. To confirm your band and the mark your programme asks for, check the university's own pages, which take precedence.
What if you already hold a conditional offer?
The score requirement in your conditional offer stays at the pre-update figure. When you convert to an unconditional offer, the university applies the updated score.
Scholarships
The reduced-score mapping does not apply to the 20% academic excellence scholarship. That scholarship is still assessed against the 1st class degree score. Other scholarships have their own criteria.
English language requirements
Direct entry language requirements changed for 2025. IELTS moved from overall 6.5 with subscores 6.0 to overall 6.5 with subscores 5.5, but no more than two of the four subscores can be 5.5.
| Test | Overall | Subscore |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS | 6.5 | 5.5 |
| Pearson PTE Academic | 67 | 59 |
| TOEFL | 92 | 20 |
| Duolingo | 120 | 100 |
| Language Cert Academic SELT | 70 | 62 |
| Language Cert Online Test | Pass | 30/50 |
The policy gives two IELTS examples. Overall 6.5 with subscores 5.5, 5.5, 7.0, 7.5 is acceptable. Overall 6.5 with subscores 5.5, 5.5, 5.5, 9.0 is not.
Some tests cannot be lowered further because the lowest subscore is already at the SELT minimum. For LanguageCert ESOL SELT, each subscore requirement is 33/50.
Programme-specific extras: GMAT, portfolio, interview
The 2025 policy table covers the Chinese weighted average and English language thresholds. It does not state which PGT programmes require a GMAT, a portfolio, or an interview. For those requirements, check the university's own pages, which take precedence.
Study modes the policy does not cover
The policy says it applies to all PGT courses at both campuses. It does not name study modes that are not accepted. If you are considering a mode outside the standard PGT route, check the university's own pages, which take precedence.
